Meet Anabela Almeida
Nurse, midwife, lactation consultant, and passionate advocate for holistic family wellness.
My Story
Born and raised in Lisbon, Anabela felt from a very young age a strong calling to care for and support others. She completed her Nursing Degree in 2006 and began her career in one of Lisbon's main hospitals, where she developed a strong foundation in compassionate, patient-centred care.
In 2007, love brought her to Ireland, where she continued working as a nurse in St Luke's General Hospital. While she loved her role, the birth of her first baby sparked a deeper passion for supporting mothers and babies. This led her to complete a Higher Diploma in Midwifery and transition into maternity care.
Working as a midwife has been both a privilege and a deeply enriching experience. As a proud mother of four children — including twins — Anabela brings together her professional expertise and real-life experience to support families with empathy, understanding, and authenticity.
In 2013, Anabela trained with the International Association of Infant Massage and qualified as a Certified Infant Massage Instructor (CIMI). Since then, she has shared the gift of baby massage with more than 600 families.
In 2016, she became an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), the gold standard qualification in breastfeeding and lactation care. Since then, she has provided expert lactation support across hospital, community, and private clinic settings.
Anabela is also a proud council member of the Association of Lactation Consultants of Ireland, contributing to the advancement of breastfeeding support nationwide.
Her passion for supporting parents continued to grow, leading her to undertake safe babywearing training. She went on to develop her own programmes, including Groovy Baby babywearing movement classes and Confident Babywearing workshops, designed to help parents carry their babies safely while enjoying the many physical and emotional benefits of babywearing.
Anabela also provides homebirth midwifery care through the HSE Homebirth Scheme, supporting families who choose to welcome their babies at home in a safe and supported environment.
She is passionate about supporting families in Kilkenny and beyond, offering both in-person and virtual care. Through her work, she feels honoured to play a part in many positive, confident, and supported motherhood journeys.
